Christmas time is here….

Santa, baby…put a little gift from Cha Cha’s under the tree…We have some items for the gal or guy that loves their hair! For the ladies, we’ve got Kevin Murphy gift sets (shampoo, conditioner, and spray) or Evo gift sets.  Both sets can be swapped out for a product you love from that line.  (Might I recommend buying Kevin Murphy’s Hair Resort for any lady on your list. Hands down my favorite product.) And for the stylish gents on your list, we have a box from J.S. Sloane that has everything he will need to keep his hair in check! If that isn’t enough to get you excited about gift giving, we are offering gift certificates to spread the word about Cha Cha’s.  What says you care more than the gift of beauty?  Support your local beauty shop and buy local this year for the holidays!

Cha Cha’s Choices

It’s been a while since we shared with y’all what we think is happenin’ here in the great city of Lexington! Well this week, we’ve got a person(s), place, and thing that you just have to check out!!

Village Idiot

307 W. Short St.                                                                                                                Lexington, KY 40507

www.lexingtonvillageidiot.com

This is one of Lexington’s newest hot spots for drinks, craft beers and a unique menu to go with it! The mushroom sloppy joe is amazing, and if you get fries it takes almost the whole plate! The atmosphere is nice but not too stuffy, the staff were all knowledgeable (with great recommendations if you need help) and friendly.  They offer a small set of dining out on the sidewalk for some great people watching while you are dining.  The upstairs seats more people but the bar also has plenty of room to eat and relax.

JD McPherson
www.jdmcpherson.com

We can’t get enough of this guy, and he stays on our playlist at the shop.  All the time. He played a show not that long ago at our friend Cali DeVaney’s hair salon, Parlor & Juke in Nashville, TN.  JD McPherson, himself is from a small town called Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, and grew up participating in mostly punk bands.  Later as he wrote more songs, he left his job as an art teacher to pursue his career in music.  He has listed not only rockabilly acts as influences but also musical acts ranging from Wu-Tang Clan to The Pixies.  The latest album is called “Signs & Signifiers” and you can get it on i-tunes or catch the show coming up at Headliners in Louisville, KY.

Emi-Jay Hair ties                                                                                              www.emi-jay.com

These hair ties are the bomb.  There really is no other way to sell them but to say they will change your life.  We all hate that crease you get in your hair from having it in a ponytail.  Well that is a problem no more…these little hair life savers not only don’t leave a crease, but no breakage! I mean are we really surprised that wrapping a rubber banded piece of plastic breaks off our hair?  Especially for those of us that color our hair, we have to be extra careful of breakage and conditioning (hello, my fellow bleach blondes!).  Not to mention how super cute they are, I mean you can get ones that are glittery, metallic, animal print, or for those of us that want a low key look, they match your hair!  Last but not least, each hair tie is hand dyed by one of two girls that make up the dynamic duo that came up with the idea.  So you are buying a product to help out another small business here in America.  Come by the shop and pick one for you…or someone you care about their hair! They make great gift items whether you are buying them a la carte or the pre-packaged ones.

Stop by the shop and pick one…or two…or more! Be sure to get one of our totally awesome pins to show your support for your local hair salon!  Watch out t-shirts are coming soon!

“The Picasso of Hair Extensions”: A true story of how adding a little bit can go a long way

So many times we hear of men having thinning hair as they get older, but usually they can shave it off.  No worries, right?  What about the ladies out there? What kind of options are available for us?  Obviously not every woman is going to embrace a shaved head like Sinead O’Conner or Natalie Portman, especially if you are in a professional atmosphere.

Well ladies there is hope!

I recently sat down with one of Maggie’s extensions clients, Rita Sue and you would never know that she had extensions.  Her hair is highlighted blonde with a slight angle to make it longer in front (around her face).  She was super excited to tell me about her hair!

T: What do you like best about your extensions?

R: Oh, do I have to just say one? (I assure her, no…you can say more) Good! (laughs) I use them for fullness to my hair.  As I have gotten older, it has thinned out quite a bit.  They are so great, and nobody knows they are extensions!  So I have to tell them! (laughs) It also gave me so much confidence, I had cut all my hair to my chin to disguise the thinning hair. (shakes her head) That of course didn’t work.  You are just a woman with SHORT thin hair! With the extensions it has allowed my real hair to grow and take better care of it.  It’s also so easy to style, and it is such easy maintenance too!

T: Wow! Sounds like you are really happy about them!

R: I am! You have no idea until you try them the confidence it has given me to go out in public! (She has a huge smile on her face) The first ones I got were at the holidays in December.  That was the adhesive kind, and they really didn’t work as well for me.  I upgraded to the beaded ones, and I haven’t gone back! Like I said, the maintenance is so easy! Instead of getting color done, the extensions act like highlights to my hair.  It was so helpful because when I got them done for the first time, Maggie had hers in, and she was able to show me what to do.

T: Do you still get color done with your extensions in?

R: Yes! Just not as often now, instead of coming in every 4-8 weeks, it’s every 4 months! So the price you spend on the extensions is really offset because you aren’t coming in as often. You start with almost a whole head of extensions, but as your real hair grows, you weed out the extensions to where they are most needed.  And when I get them tightened, it is like if you were to get a trim on your hair.

T: And styling your hair? That is still pretty normal too?

R: Oh yes! It just falls into place, and takes about half the time I did before!

T: Because you don’t have to worry about if your hair looks too thin?

R: Exactly! You can do ponytails, or pull it back from your face.  You can’t really run your fingers through it, like some people are constantly doing [that nervous thing where you run your fingers through your part and over to the side of your head] but for me, once it’s styled…I’m set!  Sometimes, just from touching it, I’m not sure whether it’s my real hair or my extensions! (we all laugh) They are that good! So I give them a little tug…then you know! (laughs)

T: What about product?

R: I’m actually using less product! I really only worry about conditioning it with Moroccan Oil or Coconut oil.  I don’t waste time or money on texturizers or volumizers.  It’s really great! Like I said the pricing involved really makes up for all that.  I had more damage to my hair before the extensions!

T: And Maggie, about how many clients have these extensions since you started working on the floor?

M: I would say under ten. [Maggie will have been on the floor for a year in September, I’m not an expert on hair, but that’s pretty good!]

R: Maggie really is great! She is the “Picasso of Hair Extensions”!

(Maggie interjects that she wants that recorded)

If you are interested in finding out more about pricing or if you would be a great candidate for these extensions, please call us at 859-268-0333.  Talk to the fabulous Mary Pool about how to get in for a consultation with Maggie.

“Hey, can I ask you something….”

As a stylist people are always asking you questions or opinions on what they should do about their hair.  We thought we would give you the dish on a couple of questions people really want to know about…
What is a Keratin treatment?
Maggie Mayhem: It is NOT a straightener, but a protein treatment for hair that is frizzy or damaged.  It is also good for those that have very curly hair, and want to keep the curl.  It captures the curl without the frizz.  It’s good for all hair types, and there are three different levels of treatments.  It helps smooth out your hair the way you would fill in a gravel driveway, it fills in the gaps where the protein is missing from your hair.  The process starts with a clarified shampooing, then the treatment is applied to wet hair.  After we blow dry the hair, it’s flat ironed because it is the heat that sets the treatment in your hair.  When you leave the salon,  you can’t wash your hair for 48 hours, it must remain straight, no ponytails or tucking behind your ears.  Then you can style, wash, etc., however you want, and treatment should last from 3-4 months. We have had a huge response from this service.  One guest even called it a “life changer
How do I know what hairstyle is right for me?

Jason “the boss” Glass: We don’t really keep haircut magazines here in the shop.  We don’t put much stock in what is “trendy” or what’s “new”.  It’s more about you.  What do you want your hair to say about you?  Everyone has a different face shape, hair type, or commitment to time on their hair.  This comes from having a knowledgable stylist that also has a good relationship with their customers.  I’ve worked with a number of stylists that know 4 good haircuts, and they put them on everyone.  You can’t do that.  It has to be based on the individual and what suits their life the best.
